After acquiring my Copic sketch 25th Anniversary set this weekend, I decided to try some illustration to break them in. It turns out they work really, really well for me:
Yours truly, referenced from an upcoming reference sheet by Acidapluvia.
The primary scale color is Maize (Y35), with Cashmere (Y32) and Pumpkin Yellow (YR15) forming light and deep shadows. The frills and ventral scales are Sand White (E42) and Egg Shell (E50), the latter of which is also used for the horns. Eye color is Agate (B99). Mouth color is Strong Red (R46) with hints of Hollyhock (RV55).
One of my roommates.
Drawn in Aqua Blue (BG01) with Ice Blue (B12) and Hydrangea Blue (BV13) for light and dark shadows. Horns are done in Cool Gray (C5 and C7), while the eyes are Mimosa Yellow (YG00). Earfrills are pure Ice Blue (B12) with Aqua Blue (BG01) as the shadow blender.
Another one of my roommates.
Done primarily in Cool Gray (C3 and C5). Eye color is Yellowish Green (YG06) and Cool Gray (C3), with Mimosa Yellow (YG00) around the whitened iris. Nose horn is Ice Blue (B12), while the earfrills are Sand White (E42).
Roommate-to-be.
Scale color is a mixture of Cashmere (Y32) and Maize (Y35). Ventral scales are Mimosa Yellow (YG00) with Maize (Y35) undertones. Shadows are Loquat (YR12) and Pumpkin Yellow (YR15). Eyes are Mimosa Yellow (YG00). Horns are shaded in Cool Gray (C3).
And then I drew something garish.
This used a third of the colors I had in the box. Base was Aqua Blue (BG01), with earfrills in Ice Blue (B12) again. Beyond that, don’t ask me. Other than the fact these are all in my 25th anniversary Copic sketch set, I deliberately didn’t keep track.
Predictably, these are illustrations of roommates and roommates-to-be.
All linework was done with a Sakura Graphic 1 Brush Pen and Sakura Micron 0.1. All white highlights were done with a uni-ball Signo broad, white pigment ink gel pen. Paper stock is 96gsm, from a Royal & Langnickel hardbound sketchbook.
